Watching the dedication of the new MLK memorial in Washington, DC yesterday I was re-inspired by the vision of social justice Dr. King had for the world. I have always admired Dr. King’s philosophy of nonviolence and one-worldness. It is interesting to consider that members of the King family have followed a vegan diet. I watched the memorial dedication around the time I visited Blackbsburg, Virginia recently. I’ve stumbled upon a restaurant near the Virginia Tech campus that I’m sure the King family would love.
Gillies in Blacksburg, Virginia is an excellent restaurant. On a recent Friday night we enjoyed some delicious vegan entrees followed by a moist vegan chocolate cake. The menu is almost all vegetarian with a handful of fish recipes on the menu. This most recent visit was my third trip to Gillies and every time as as good as the last. I think I’ve usually ordered the specials on the day’s I’ve been there but beware … they often run out of ingredients for some of their most popular dishes.
The chocolate vegan cake … AMAZING! Just expect to wait if you go for Saturday brunch. I haven’t been … the lines have been too long. Go to Gillies!
